oh, besides the fact that it was the worst weather season in about 15-20 years, it was good!
Actually had a couple of good trips this year. Biggest catch was a 187 Yellowfin July 1 in the Hudson.
Other than that mosty trips were good with a mess of longfin and yellowfin. I think our worst trip was 6 fish.
Also hooked up with 2 Blue Marlin this year with early releases!
Tuna season was rather odd - another year where the longfin blitz never cam in July. Then throughout the summer had a mix of small yellows and bigger than usual longfin. Is it me or are the longfin keep getting bigger? Never had the 50-60 pound yellow blitz we used to get and really didn't get that quality chunk yellows in the 100# like last year. It was more of a smattering of 40-60 yellows, longfin and a few 100# yellowfin. Big eyes were a little slower earlier and had a good presence in Sept- Oct if you could get out. Only thing is a lot of people out there think they have eye balls when they are bluefin - what our club calls those blue eyes. It's amazing that some people go out there and can't classify a tuna correctly. And it's not that hard.
Except for the weather that cut my trips in half from usual it was a good year. But then again even if we did twice as many trips, we still want more.
