I heard people say that bergalls are great ling bait. Do you just chunk it like u do to bunker for bass/blues (with both sides of the skin on with the bones)or do u fillet strips of the meat w/o bone?
Usually, the best is to fillet them, then cut into strips, couple inches long is all you need. Hook them one time towards the top, just like a strip bait for fluke. Many times, you can get several fish on the same strip.
Bergall is definately a great bait for the yellow bellied sap suckers. Many days you'll see it outproducing clam by a wide margin.
Chinookhead, ditto to what JC said. You can also do a ham/egg combo with the bergall strip and clams. Looks like you're going to have a very nice evening to fish for ling later on. If I lived an hour closer I'd be there with you.
Just wondering, would a bergal strip work well for a blackfish, or would sticking to crabs be better? And also, are there any regs for bergals, just in case i want to use one to make bait?

Not a standard bait for tog, but I've caught a few on them while targeting ling , big seabass also. In NY, there are no regs on bergalls, I see you're from CT, not sure about your state's waters.
