Hey guys,
Just wondering what everyone thought is the best way to fight a cod. Some people point the rod straight down toward the water as they reel, while others keep the rod lifted straight out as they reel. What are your thoughts?
PEACE,

Hi Willy
I would keep doing what you are doing, seems to be working just fine. I keep my rod pointed down with just enough bend to cushion the waves and fish with a fairly light drag.Slack line is a no-no. You have had a good run on the Bunny this year and probably lead the BC fisherman of the year but watch out for Fred Kunz, he is doing a marathon a week the rest of the season and with Tim working the deep stuff now Fred will pile up the points.

Good luck....Bob Nixon

thanks for the advice bob,
sounds like you fred had an awesome marathon thursday. If I am in the running for fisherman of the year now, I highly doubt I will be at the end of the year because i'm going to boarding school tomorrow, and will only be able to fish on two full day trips the rest oif the season.
See ya,

Hi,

I agree with codkiller. horizontal with a smooth drag to absorb waves and the short dives a cod makes coming up. I have hooked too many cod with the hook barely in the lip and if just fighting the drags reel (rod twd the water), they may have fallen off.

The action of the rod when horizontal also helps spring the cod up to the surface.
