I was drifting through an inlet the other day when I got hung up on the bottom, my reel was spooled with #30 Fireline and I knew better than to hold the line with my hands (cuts like a knife). While on charter boats I've seen mates take a couple of wraps around the reel frame and let the rocking of the boat break off or pull out a snag but that was with mono, I used the same technique with the fireline but afterwards wondered if this stuff could tighten so mush around the reel as to crack the reel frame? Any opinions on this? Is there any way the reel could be damaged by the line, I use a Shimano TR200 which is made up of a composite material, I would hate to find out the hard way that the strain could be to much on the reel.

got no wire cutters? just kdding. i dont know about braid that much. as far as the reel, personaly i would not put fireline on a graphite reel. i believe it would definitely damage the reel.maybe u could of wrapped it around a pair of pliers or anything metal and try breaking it that way.just my opinion.

I have a small piece of wood like a very small bat that I wrap the line around and break it that way. But more often, I turn up the drag on my cheap Corsair, point the rod straight at the snag, and pull backwards. I usually get it back, after thinking its gone. Reel is still ticking. I'm more concerned about the rod.

Probably safer to wrap around a piece of wood in your hand. (...or a knife)
