Well it's almost here. I would imagine most will start fishing in about a month, maybe month and a half (for bass that is). What's your springtime plans for stripers?

Also, how did you all get through the winter without going insane? I took in a couple of fishing shows/meetings, watched a lot of ESPN outdoors, did a lot of outdoor reading, visited noreast regularly, got to LILCO a few times and have begun scouting my springtime haunts. Who got creative in their cabin fever?

Hunt, Hunt and oh yeah Hunt some more.

They extended the deer season in CT to the end of Jan. so that kept me busy and there was alot less "down" time. Been tying flies and getting all my gear ready to go for the spring run. After reading some of the discussions on the board I might even head out for some winter flounder.

some of the best fishing is in the winter. you just have to get in the car. if you like striper fishing, from december to feb is off the hook in virginia and north carolina.if you like sea bass or cod there are a couple of boats that slam em.another thought is the bluefin tuna bite in hatteras or morehead city nc.

Staying local..

Just keep fishing! When there isn't snow falling. Hit lilco, some perch in the tidal streams, some trout at the local lakes, maybe a searun at some of there haunts, and maybe a few panfish here and there. And sometimes a largemouth here and there. And can't forget to mention the hole in the ice crowd......fish on

Oh, LOL, that's an easy one. Renovations in the house. Funny thing about them. After you complete a project, two more suddenly appear.

Other than that.....The internet! The NE forums, strafing the fishing websites for the best deals on new tackle, getting my internet fly fishing lessons and studying them, and surfing for the appropriate tackle, and explaining to my wife about the occasional XXX button that somehow appears on the taskbar.

I spent what seems like one **** long winter sharpening every hook that I have, made some bucktails & teasers. This weekend I paint the boat, install the fishfinder and Fin-Tac. The boat goes in the water on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Fishing season starts on Saturday (I hope). Anyone else starting on the 15th?

I just read in the Post this morning, the fishing editor reported that Capt. Dave out of sheepshead believes, from his past experiences, that the cold winter usually brings a superior run of flounder in the spring. I am optomistic that he is right.

Sure hope so! :)

I'm waiting til May 1 to put the boat in this year. Seems like every year I get the boat in in March determined to go flounder fishing. Make two or three trips, spend tons on gas (long ride from G'Port to Shinne****), bait etc., all for a dozen or so fish. Think I'll sit home this year and take in March madness and wait for stripers, fluke and weaks in the Bay in May.
