Spro,

I have wondered myself why there are no South Shore wrecks/reefs listed. Never asked why though. It would be nice if they were included here in one location.

You should definately have a chart. Anyone who goes out on the water should have a chart, Capt Seagull or the regular waterproof charts available at any tackle or boating supply shop. They provide information on wreck and reef locations as well as navigational aids and other "structure" that can hold fish.

For immediate gratification. You can use www.maptech.com . Enter a location or wreck name and click on the Nautical Chart feature and you can find wrecks and waterways anywhere in the country.

there're also a couple of "Wreck Valley" books out there, written by one of the local sport divers (I believe the author is Dan Berg, I'd have to double check that though). It pretty much covers most of the wrecks in the NY Bight. Goes into pretty good detail about the wrecks locations (the copy i have from like '95-'96 had Loran #'s in the back), what kind of marine life and artifacts can be found on them, drawings of a few of them, and a pretty detailed history of most of the wrecks....i'd have to say it's probably geared more towards divers than wreck fishermen, but there's still a lot of interesting stuff in it....
