I have an 18 foot parker center console with 4stroke yam. Im wondering if the weather is great if I could trailer my boat out to the point and run out for some tuna action. I'm not looking to be one of the guys from the perfect storm I'm just wondering if it's been done and is it recommended on nice days.

Thanks

Yaz,
it depends on the year, and where the fish are, which in tour depends on the bait, the water temp. etc. etc. The closest I've ever seen them, and I've been fishing there for over 20 years was about 15 miles off the beach. We were bailing tuna and could still see hither hills. But that was fairly unusual. Most times you'll have to go 30-60 miles to find them. You judge wheather or not to go in an 18ft center console :)

One day I was fluking on the Marlin IV and we were off the beach just
west of Gurneys and a school of 100lb class of BFT came up chasing tinker macks right of the stern
They were moving fast if I would"ve had a jig handy I could of hooked up.

We took schoolie bluefin to about 30 lbs just 8 miles off the beach on the troll with Mike Brumm on the Day Breaker and on another trip took bluefin to 94 lbs on the chunk just 25 miles off the beach on the Half Back.
