Got the wax part . But what about a good wax or sealent that keeps your decks clean and no slippery ?

My non skid deck get so dirty and would like to find some thing that helps . Like fish **** , can be hosed off with out having to scrub for hours . I am also talking about Non Skid deck so I would hate to be slidding all over the place with ordenary waxes .

My deck seems to suck up the stains , when I hese it I see no beading of water at all . What would help ?

Depending on what the surface of that deck is covered with and what type of condition it's in, it might be easiest and more benificial to simply re-coat it.

For example, my boat, has simple marine grade plywood floors; I re-paint them every fall with a simple oil base floor paint and mix it in with a non-skid additive. It's an easy job, I just give it a good sweep, getting the chunks and dust off, and then I give it a good once over. This assures the moisture is sealed out, and makes them like new again. Non-skid additive doesn't require any heavy cleaning as it is a bumpy coat anyway.

If you've got some sort of an epoxy or polyester topcoat, the same thing can be done, and probably should if it's badly scuffed up as moisture can find it's way in. It's just going to take a different type of coating. Some fiberglass decks are simply coated with an oil or urethane paint. Do you know what's currently on that top layer?

Non - Skid Deck Cleaner

I haven't tried it myself yet but I noticed on the shelf a couple of times at West Marine. Its called Non-Skid Deck cleaner, its supposed to clean yet leave a some sort of protectant in place for the deck. I think I seen Star Brite makes it too.

Mike - it works as advertised -- two coats required for best protection and I bought mine in Boater's World in Massapequa.

Soft Scrub

When cleaning the boat after a day of fishing I use soft scrub, on the decks only of course. The bleech that is in it removes anything with a stiff brush. After you rinse it down there is always some risdual soap left and what happens is the leftovers with the help of the sun clean it right off.
I have been doing it for 2 years now on my boat without any problems.

Try it once and you will see.

Virtually no boat maintenance products at this weekend's Outdoor Expo at Coliseum. Aside from 6 bucks parking and 7 bucks hot dog and soda, it was worthwhile, although no ammunition or mags on hand for my other "hobby." Will go to my local Boaters World for some wax-type non-skid treatment. I too have used soft scrub, but want to leave a coating that will allow just a hose-down for the next few fishing trips. The back bay plugging seminar organized by that "other website", Chuck Adams of Causeway Tackle, was excellent.

Bowery Boys? Skid Row?

My boat "LUCY LARCOM" also needs new No Skid and I have been vassilating regarding the plethora of options available. She currently has 3M brand stick on No skid but it has seen its day what with years of wild animals and such abrading its venneer.

So: I perplexed at what to do.

1) Option # 1 would be to TRADE an all day fishing trip to some fine folks in exchange for spaying A RINO LINER type bedding on the decks.

2) Option # 2 is to go to my local Boat Depot STore and buy Rubber floor runners and glue them down.

#3) Option is to stick on new 3M non skid just like on the Navy Boats.

#4) is Luxurious Blue Synthitic Astro Turf like the Dallus Cowboys play on. It would double as a Bocci Ball court on those slow fishing days.

#5) I have acctually done this to another boat. Mix SILICA (Its NOT just Sand ITS SILICA) Name that tune: into your $150 a gal Awlgrip and paint it on the deck. Available at HO-BOAT Depot.

PS Soft Scrub works well and does not mar the yacht like finnish. A good fried used COMET/Bon Ami on his Bertram Moppie and boy did it clean! Make the gel coat Non Skid all in one step!

Woody Wax

in the second half of the season i got this stuff called Woody Wax from Fred Chall in freeport. i got it to use on my hard top and non skid. it worked really good. for metal it is a 2 step process. first you wipe on the woody wax to clean up the metal and u let it sit for 20 mins then buff it off. then you apply a metal wat that it comes with, let it dry and buff it off. for non skid you spray the woody wax onto the deck, let it sit again then hose it off and buff it. its some great stuff, makes clean up a lot easier. i put it on all of my rods also. it is a little expensive, i think the kit was $36 but it really goes far. has anyone else out there tried this product?

I bought 12 bucks of Sure Step today at BW- but it will be April before I can give a review. I think I will spend late March or early April shooting out east instead of wasting my time going after flounder (extinct?)
Anyway, I will post once I get an idea how the stuff worked.

Try MOP N GLOW from the grocery store! Just mop or sponge it on, let sit and lightly rinse off! Cheap and easy! I have used on the helf chairs(textured), swim platform and gunnel coverboards and it works pretty good! My chairs, hatched and swim platform used to turn grey during the season, now they stay ALOT better!

Mop N Glow seems to make cleanup much easier. I Haven't put it on my deck yet but it is not slippery on the seats, swim platform and gunnel coverboards (all non slip). I guess it is like a liquid car wash/wax for kitchen floors.
