That is what got me thinking about it...why have a board for one specific charity, when there is such a variety of interests. My family was devastated by brain cancer, so that is my #1 priority.. I formed an organization that is making a difference and I see the light at the end of the tunnel..
many of our members use the services of organizations like make a wish. They are a good organization and play an essential role in the lives of kids who face horrible diseases.
However, because MY interest is in speeding up the search for the cure that I know is now within our grasp, I would rather see the money go into medical research to cure the child than to spend it on a trip to disneyworld. If I was a kid in such a situation, my wish would be "find me a xxxxx cure!".
However, I can see other points of view - such as if you are dealing with sick children, it is very nice to be able to give them a few days of happiness.
Or if your family is dealing with other devastating diseases, support those causes. There are a lot of excellent charities out there.
Even within the brain tumor charity community, there are many different philosophies on how to speed up the search for the cure. Of course, I think mine is best

But I could be wrong.. which is why I always help other brain tumor organizations when I can.. such as the METs fundraiser I mentioned for another brain tumor organization named "Voices Against Brain Cancer". I had meetings with them and they had completely different ideas than I do on how to approach the problem.. so we are going to help each other achieve our goals..
My organization also participated in the "Stand Up To Cancer" event last week.. we were one of only 4 brain tumor organizations invited. (Did anyone see the event - on channel 2,4 and 7 last friday night)? It was unbeleivable!)
Everyone here has been touched by some kind of cancer or other disease.. and it is now in our power to speed up the search for the cures.. so pick an organization int he field that interests you and help them. We can not leave it up to the government or drug companies any more. We need people who are motivated to help.
