Tilex works great on gray hatches, seats, and swim platforms! Also not a household product-Rain-X on the windows works great! The water rolls away and most of the salt is gone after the windows have dried off! Black shoe polish works on things like the tension knobs of helm chairs(the black knobs).
If the knobs are really whiting or greying out use a black magic marker first. Alumaguard (a marine product will help the same conditions on any of your black guage panels. Windex works well cleaning up dirt and smudges on your dash.
Hipshot
P.S. Put a little dab of vasoline on your canvas snaps to heep from sticking, male button and just use a little on your finger and wipe on.

Goodies from The Kitchen

Hi Hip shot..I have used the vaseline also but used a Q-Tip to put into the female side of the canvas.;)

If you read some of the common labels on some things we use for the home they are used in marine applications also.:)

When cleaning the boat at the end of the day I use regular dish washing soap with a fairly stiff brush. The for the decks, (non Skid) I use the LEMON soft scrub for a nice clean smell for the family.

A tip for your coolers: After cleaning them out sometimes you have a fish smell to them. If they are multi pupose coolers and you have the time take a lemon and rub it on the walls and the bottom of the cooler.

The acid from the lemon gets into the Paws of the plactic and gets it clean. I also use lemon on BBQ pits at certain parks to clean the grill top when it is hot. Takes everything right down to clean metal. I know if you get the lemon juice in a samll cut it hurts like **** but at least it won't get infected.:)

Try it. IT WORKS!

Car soap

I wouldn't use dish washing soap on your smooth fiberglass. It'll strip the wax right off. Use car soap. It cleans everthing very well and also leaves the fiberglass very shiny. A little of goes a long way. Another tip it using wax on your chrome. If the chrome is beat up you might need use Noxon or another cleaner to get it bright, but then throw a coat of good wax on it and it keeps shining for the season.

I agree about the household dishwasher detergents-why remove wax when you have put so much time putting it on? As for smells, I learned years ago after fishing for cod on the party boats with dead clams that smell like you know what, even after multiple washings they smelled like you know what! A dab of aftershave lotion kiled the smell! Also baking soda solution is another great product!

Have found that the "Orange" based citris cleaners do a great job of cleaning and also get rid of fish / bait smell. I also keep a container of the orange based hand cleaner on the boat, works great.
They sell the citris cleaners in gallon jugs at Home Depot.

Before I close the cabin after a days fishing I spray lysol for about 20 - 30 seconds then shut the door . I also do this in my canvas encloser before the zipper gets closed . Keeps things smelling pretty next time I use the boat . I also sometimes pore a little PineSol in the bowl .

I also rub a little vasoline on the zippers on the canvas and work them up and down a few times .

Once and a while I would put Mothers car wax on the Radar dome cover and antennas .

Not a cleaning tip but .........

Does anyone else enjoy Almaden 5 liter bag in the box wines ? { thier merlot does it for me }
Anyways when you finish off the wine take the bag out of the box , rinse it out a little & fill it with water by opening the valve & sticking it under the faucet { it takes only a couple minutes to fill it, it's easy !}
Anyways it'll look like a pillow maybe 4" or so thick when full then stick it in the freezer, you end up with a great frozen ice bag/block that keeps a cooler cool for a whole July weekend. You can refreeze & reuse the same bag a dozen times too,
Save money on block ice means more $ for beer !
Cool!

I agree wth Striper 77 on that orange citrus cleaner from Home Depot ( Zep brand ), also add it to laundry to kill fishy smells. On the boat, I use Armorall on all sorts of hard plastic and rubber stuff. It really stops sun damage.

These are great posts!

Heres some not for your boat but your FISHING TACKLE !

You strip line off an old reel . Get rid of most of the top layers to get down to some good old line . Take a 5'long 2 x 4 (wood stud) . Rap the good old line thats all curly pulling it tightly up and over the 2 x 4 the long way . Remember PULLING it TIGHT . Wet it down leave it in the sun and do that a few times . Then put it inside . Leave it on the wood for a couple of weeks . The you can cut it off and you have 5' pieces of straight Leader Material .

Heres One more I heard but haven't tried yet . Your seasons over and the wire line is left on your reels all winter long . Then you get some corrosion on the line and spool . Which can get expensive the next time you use it and it breaks losing the line and your Bunker Spoon or whatever Plus it gets very curly left on the reel .

Get a old electricial wire reel Not the reel big ones just middle size one .

Remove the line from Fishing reels Putting it on the wire reel . This makes it easy to hose it off throughly and keeps down on the curling . You can even give it a light spay of WD 40 to keep the moisture off durring the winter . Then you can also clean up you spools on your fishing reels .

Next year just put the line back on the reel and your ready to go .

i dont know if any of you have tried this it works great when its time to take the old line off i usually keep the empty spools you take a 6in bolt and on both ends you put a washer and a nut and tighten it up you take either end and insert it in a cordless power drill and hit the button it strippes the line off in no time
