Hopper 500 FS and Saltist 50. Any thoughts on this combo for jigging for partyboat tuna? To light? Can I get a decent combo for 300.00 or do I have to spend more. I will if I have to. I just want something decent to get started.

what style of jigging do you want to do, spinning/conventional?

if you only go once or twice per year then you don't need to spend a ton since you won't use it enough. but if you go regularly I think it's a better idea to pay a bit more for gear that performs better and will last longer.

The Saltist 50 is fine for jigging Tuna.

If you are leaning towards the Saltist, the 40 might be a better casting choice as it is not as wide, but will still hold plenty of 80lb or 100lb braid.

It you decide on the Saltist for Tuna, you should upgrade the reel with Carbonex drags and replace the right side bushing with a bearing.
