Hope Clinic lives up to its name

They are trying to support families, put food on the table and that doesn?t leave money for health insurance

A very common theme in the fishing industry these days. The question is whether the coastal states should have a program where commercial fishermen can purchase low cost health insurance for their families, or force the insurance companies within their states to be the direct provider of these services and assume the costs.

As you know, every since POTUS- W. Bush floated a trial ballon earlier this year about assigning a dollar value to the employee provided health care plans, this issue has become a lightening rod on who is going to pay for the rising medical costs in this country.

There was a debate within Ws' inner circle and higher ups in the Republican party on whether these benefits should directly be a taxable item onto the employees income once the value reaches a given dollar threshold, say starting at 14k a year.

The reason: To fund a NEW government program where others who DO NOT have health insurance, can now have some limited type of medical insurance for themselves and their families.

Thankfully the measure quietly dissapeared during this upcoming election year as the unions around the country circled the wagons as they saw this as direct attack on a social benefit that has been deemed by them sacrosanct, and only could be changed by collective bargaining between the unions and employers.

Now why do I bring this up. Simple...some one has to pay to fund these programs, and since medical costs are rising on the average of between 8-20 percent a year depending on the type medical coverage you have, the states now feel that they cannot fund another 'bottomless-pit' medical program, which is the ever increasing group of uninsured workers.

So who will pay?

The insurance companies don't want to pay for these insured worker programs...oh no, not by a stretch.

The states say that there budgets are continuously going into the red with such states as New York, trying to cope with their uncontrollable medicaid costs.

The direct providers such as the hospitals, clinics and doctors, want to be paid, and want to reap the most dollars for there services from EITHER OR ALL-the patients, insurance companies and the state.

So who does that leave?

Who else by the well funded DRUG COMPANIES, who are the root of all evil because of all the profits they are making from their high priced drugs!

In reality, the only ones who can partially fund a uninusred workers program is the states, in conjuction with the drug companies, along with the areas hospitals.

If you have insurance, you are definitly not going to support providing your hard earned tax dollars going into medical services for uninusred workers.

If you do not have health insurance like many commercial fishermen, then you would want some type of social medicine program where everyone pays into the pot ala Madame Hillarys' failed medical fiasco in 1994, and again being floated around the campaign trail.

So where does that leave the uninsured commercial fishermen?

Right behind all the immigrants who enter this country and receive this benefit as soon as they walk off the plane at JFK here in New York....way to go Ted Kennedy, Chuckie Schummer, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid who continuously support this give away with your tax money.

You have to understand that you have little support, because it all comes down to funding uninsured workers, and who in their right minds who has paid medical insurance want to ante up even more of their money to pay for someone, or some family they don't even know.

Steve, I don't think the Democrats should be considered the root evil of all. Crooked politicians are the root of all evil....key word being politicians, democrat and republican alike

In all honesty, in today's world I think there is very little difference between dems and republicans. NEITHER party really cares much for the welfare of the middle class, the republicans support the billionaires, the dems support the paupers and thulsy the middle class is pretty much left with the burden.

However, I think there are good and rational people on both sides, and we need to find those good people and vote for them, even if it means crossing party lines.

As far as Bush...check this out: Bush vetos Child Health Care Bill

Democratic Candidates on Universal Healthcare

The millionaire Edwards....We pay for it by getting rid of Bushs Tax Cuts......

Obama: We need mandatory health Care.....

Madame Hillary: Im thrilled we have Universal health care back on the table.....

Senator Clinton...Can you do that without raising taxes?

Cough...cough, hamta-hamta.......

No I completely disagree....we do not have good and rational people on both sides...because both sides get money from the same companies and people, and these puppet-masters inevitably pull the politicans strings.....

Romney Flips on More Than Just Abortion

JR...you have to love Romneys being a auditor and on the board of a major corporation making money selling porn in hotel rooms! That has to be a first on the campaign trail.

By the way, what did the Gov.Mormon do for the commercial fishermen in Mass.?

What do you think...Cape Cod Hook & Line can bundle up 50k in donations and help the junior senator from New York become the new POTUS?

Romney is a Republican.

Thats what I'm trying to say...we're pretty screwed with whoever we get.

I wish Nixon came back. In all seriousness he was a EXCELLENT President. The whole Watergate thing overshadowed his true accomplishments.

Nixon, the man who deliberately set in motion events designed to undermine the Constitution of the US of A. It wasn't the Watergate break-in per se, that was the problem, It was the knowledge of it and participation in covering up the crime that was the illegal act.

Yes, I guess in the realm of lousy Presidents since LBJ like the Peanut Farmer, Bush 1, and the man from Hope Ark, Bubba, Nixon wasn't that bad a president. He's considered the father of our environmental laws, got us out of Vietnam, and recognized China, and played kissy-poo with Brezhnev by signing SALT 1 in the first detente talks with the USSR.

Only problem Grady, was that he was impeached for commiting a criminal act while in office.

Steve, like I said, notwithstanding Watergate...he was a good President. :)

He is also created many student loan and educational grant and reimbursement programs. That let kids who previously coulden't afford college actually get a chance to go.

All of them do this kind of shady stuff, its just that Nixon was the one who finally got caught.

Just like the mistresses....all of them had a mistress, its just that Willie was the one who got caught red handed lol. (Although I don't think either Bush cheated on thier spouse)

Honestly I hate politics, Nixon is my hero and now lets get back to fishing.

I think the entire system is going to collapse in the next few years unless major changes are made now.. there are new drugs out that will bankrupt the system shortly.
I run a brain cancer organization, and our biggest problem right now is how to pay for these drugs.. the best combination of drugs right now costs $675,000for 1 patient for 1 years's treatment. (This doesn't include another few hundred thousand for surgery, radiation, scans, etc. - just the cost of the drugs.)
Early research is showing that adding another really expensive drug to the mix may work better. Most insurance companies are not paying for it, but I have helped a few patients fight the insurance companies and win.. so eventually most will pay - but that will drive up the premiums quickly.
