Could someone please explain to me or hook me up with links to where I can found out how the hook size conventions work? Is seems that on some hooks the higher the number the larger the hook but for other types the higher the number the smaller the hook!!!

This creates a problem for me when I see a website advertising jigs or lures with hook sizes without lure weight. Is there a simple rule to decipher this mystic code? Thanks for any insight.

Hooks sized #1 to #16 are more freshwater with the higher the number the smaller the hook.

Hooks sized 1/0 to 16/0 are saltwater and the higher the number, the larger the hook

Keep in mind they are not standard sized either, it all varies between manufacturers & the way they are listed. Some catologs are nice enough to give you true sizes to measure up with.. on the net, this isn't possible.
