ANYONE USE THE HIGH VIS LINES IN BRIGHT YELLOW OR BRIGHT GREEN WHILE SHARKING OR TROLLING? wHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES/DISAVANTAGES? I THOUGHT THEY MIGHT BE USEFUL WHILE IN A CHOP TO SEE IF YOUR LINES/FLOATS ARE TANGLED AND DETERMINING WHICH FLOAT BELONGS TO WHICK ROD. THANX FOR YOUR INPUT IN ADVANCE!

Hipshot, I have a bunch of rods I got from Offshore Angler, they are 20lb. class I.G.F.A. trolling rods, the Ocean Master series, really nice rods, and have them matched with Penn 45GLS Reels, not so nice reels, that are spooled with the high visbility 40# green. I use these for inshore trolling, Mahi Mahi, small Bluefin, misc. other tunas, etc. It works great for that, you can really see the lines you are trolling, and the fish don't seem to mind it either as I have caught all sorts of fish using it.

I don't use that line on any of my big guns, because they double as shark/tuna rods, and as I'm sure you are aware, the high visbility stuff is a no-no with the tuna chunking. I would think it would be fine for shark, but I also can't see any benifit there.

Matt,
I was mostly interested in it for sharks. On an overcast day with a bit of a chop my lines seem to gravitate together(yes they are at different distances from the boat) But it can be hard to judge which line may be tangled or need adjustment. This is not all the time just during some drifting conditions with the dark skies.
Thanks for your reply!

P.S. What don't you like about the 45GLS, I have two of them-no problem, though they have never had a real workout?

Hipshot, I know what you mean about those days when you're shark fishing and the lines seem to have a mind of their own, and I suppose if you have trouble seeing what's, what, the high visbility stuff may help a little.

Actually, I really have not had any problems with the 45GLS, but, they too have not seen very much action when considering how much other action some of my other outfits have seen. On the other hand, I have a 25GLS that has seen plenty of action, and it's just not holding up very well. They no longer make the GLS series so that should tell you something, and I was speaking with Robert over at Sea Isle the other day about what Penn has replaced them with, and he mentioned the GLS's were always in for repair, and that they had a lot of problems with them.

Matt,
I have (2) 25GLS and (2) 45GLS only time will tell how they hold up! Penn probably feels the 10LD and 15LD will replace them. I have (2) of the 15LD with 50# braid and mono and these haven't gotten a good workout either! Nice reels though, I love the handle knobs, nice and big and weighted one end!
Thanks for your replys!
