I headed out yesterday with my dad and my friend Nick. We expected bad weather. It turned out to be much worse than expected, the wind was at least a steady 30 mph out of the West and the waves were the biggest I've been out on in LI Sound. We fished for a half our then went in.
I went solo today expecting more wind but was pleasantly surprised. In the morning there was a slight breeze out of the West and by 2pm it shifted to the east, causing a slight chop. I anchored in about 45 feet off HH. The bite was solid throughout the late morning and early afternoon. I had plenty of runoffs, I missed a few hook sets and lost a few fish that I should have caught. I guess I had an off day. Anyway I boated 3 blues to 5 pounds and a big sea robin all on chunks. I set up baits at a variety of depths but all my bites were on or just off the bottom. Water temp. is still in the low 50s.
