What is the best way to catch herring for live-lining?

I would try a herring (sabiki) rig...mackeral rigs are a little too big (they r good for Mackeral...).

herring rigs for herring.mackerel rigs for mackerel.have other rod ready or change rigs on a snap/swivel on end of running line.

I've actually gotten them on both - although the herring rig is more productive. Meant to recommend herring in my original reply.

My favorite herring rig

Do't forget the Attractor,you can buy em or make your own out of aluminum flashing,Mustad or Sabiki make a pre rigged set up,just add attractor to the top barrel swivel & a 3/4-1oz.diamond jig to the bottem.You can jig it straight off the bottom over a school,or cast it out & jig that way.If your fishing rocky structure,remove the hook off the diamond jig,to reduce snags.
I allways leave a rod set up for live linning,because you need to do the switch quickly with out taking the herring out of the water too long.
Nows the time guy's,go get em,& wittness first hand some of the best fishing has to offer,LIVE BAIT fishing.

Any other suggestions to other rigs you guy's use would be helpfull to all.
