Hi all,
Does anybody have any good recipes for herring. I already have a bunch in jars being pickled, but I wanted to try cooking some that I have left over.
I've never tried them cooked, so I talked to a guy while I was fishing in Hudson Park and he said he puts salt and pepper on them and deep fries them. Another guy said he puts cornmeal on them and deep fries them. Are either of these the best way to cook them, or do any of you guys have a favorite recipe?

My father made a type of home-made pickled herring w/onions. But unlike usual recipes that call for sour cream, he used the roe. Looked awful in the jar but was to die for!!!!!!

I don't have his recipe. He never really wrote it down. Always meant to try to re-discover it. Maybe this winter.
