I had done a search on herring and found some tips on the rig setup; however, I had one more question. Someone mentioned using lunker lights. How do you attach this to the sabiki rig? Also does it matter what color light I use?

thanks

sunbird.... i dont know what a lunker light is but im guessing its best place would be the barrel swivel connecting the mainline to the rig so it gets the fish's attention and then sees the rest of the bait string, i saw a guy with a silver plate teaser in front of his sabiki and was outfishing most of the pier with doubles and triples, my suggestion would be a lake clear wobbler used for trout, try that in front of the sabiki to increase the action....my 2 cents

I went to Sports Authority last night and they just had the plain sabiki rigs. Can you recommend a tackle shop on the south shore of long island that might carry the glow kind. I usually go to Comb's in Amityville.

thanks

"Lunker Lights" are the small flexible tubes that are Phosphorescent when you activate them. I only see the small ones in Green. Larger ones used for Shark fishing come in Pink, Amber, Red, Blue, and White as well as the Green.

Take a thick drinking straw (like Burger King uses) and cut it into 1/4 inch lenghts with a scissor. Put two on your line before you tie on the swivel. The straw slices will hold the Lunker Light at each end, and you want it fairly close to the swivel. Alternatively, you can wrap a rubber band around it and your line, and activate it once you are ready to fish.

YES! A flasher hanging off the swivel will indeed increase your catch. The herring are copycats, and the flash looks like a fish feeding. That gives you an idea of the size flasher you want. Double and triple headers are the norm, rather than unusual events.

Like the Straw

Cut that plastic sleeve in half before you slip it on your line and sandwhich the glo stick between the two pieces. It will stay on your line better. If you can't find these glo sabiki I have a friend that will gladly ship them UPS for a couple bucks. They're not an advertiser so PM me for the information.
