I really want to launch my kayak in Hemstead Harbor one of these days. I know they closed access to the main pier/park during the winter. Does any one know where I can park so that i could launch with piece of mind that my car won't get towed or locked in one of the lots. I went to scout during the winter and almost got locked in the bar beach parking lot. Appreciate any info.

i come down shore rd all the time and i see people parked on the grass on the side of the road there

they have kayak racks on their cars
and there looks like there is a path in the weeds just south of the bar beach area

i don't see a ny "no parking signs"
but i also don't know if these people know anyone

Thanks for the info, that seems a little sketchy but ill take a look some time this week

bar beach should work out fine. If they lock one gate, the other is usually open. I've never seen that place on "full lockdown".
Of course if you go kayaking in Jan, you're on your own on that one

You have to park in the boat ramp area. After 9am they lock the main gate and unlock the gate leading to the beach parking lot you also might get a ticket if you park there when the beach is open. After the beach closes and all night the gate to the access road is open and there are no tickets at night. DO NOT park in the main parking lot because at 9pm the lock it down.

you can also park in Tappan Beach before Memorial Day.
