Recently purchased a 22' center console with a 150 HP Yamaha 2 stroke. The motor runs fine, other than it will not rev over 3100 RPM when in gear and moving. When in neutral the motor revs fine. What could this be?

could be alot of things
check the prop hub could be on its way out.
it could be many other things. is the boat docked/moored ?

Dropping a cylinder could do it, among other things.

Make sure all cylinders are firing.

A prop hub won't do it, a bad prop hub will make your rev's soar when trying to plane. But since you just bought this boat you do not know what the previous oner did. He could have swapped props on you and put one on that has way too much pitch. What diameter and pitch prop is on it?

Could be something as simple throttle cable linkage/adjustment, make sure your throttles plates fully open. Could be fuel starvation, fuel flow problem.

So you have a few things to look at for now. Troubleshooting is the process of elimination.
