Ya see now?? This is why once you REALLY get into this surf game that you end up with 20 different rods!!
IMHO, there is no one blank that will work both the poppers you mentioned properly. The Polaris is a standard popper that generally will call for a somewhat firmer action in order to get that "chuggin'" (splash) you normally associate with a Polaris or other standard popper. If the tip is too soft you will have a very hard time getting that spray these plugs throw.
To get a pencil dancing requires a softer/faster action blank to easily bounce up and down while pumping it. This will get that pencil working correctly. This is what makes the fiberglass stix so popular for this type of plug.
On the fiberglas side the Lamiglas 1362 F ( 11 1/2 footer) is probably the best EVER for pencil poppers. It is not produced by them any longer but you may still be able to find one at your favorite builder. If going graphite I LOVE the 1321 L which is eleven foot. For your standard poppers in the eleven foot range the 1321 M is great and will work very nicely with the rest of your larger plugs.
Hope this helps.
