Hey guys

For some reason I have this alarm coming from my helm. It not the engine over heating because the temperature gauge is normal. The alarm sound is dim them it get loud and suddenly shuts off. This happens when I run the boat for about an hour. Any Idea what will trigger the alarm. Is it possibly something electrical or is it something to do with the engine.

My engine is a 2003 125 Merc 2 stroke. It seems to be stalling out on me. The engine takes a few cranks of the key to kick over then it will suddenly stall. I usually have to run the engine at high rpms in neutral to get it to turn over. I checked my fuel pump ball to see if it was rotted out but that is fine and fuel is getting to the engine it seems. I was thinking of dropping it of to a certified Merc mechanic to make sure nothing is wrong. If anyone has a clue why it is doing this, would this be something that I can fix or should I have a Merc mechanic fix this problem. The engine has approx 250-300 hours.

Thanks in advance.

Mike,

Should I schedule an appointment with a mechanic to fix this issue?

That would be the easiest way to get it fixed. But if you want to troubleshoot it yourself, I would check for stry current getting to the alarm circuit both under the dash and at the engine.

Make sure nothing is wrong? Sure sounds like SOMETHING is wrong, no?

Newer outboards like yours have alarms that sound for a few different scenarios. If you are triggering an alarm I would think one of the idiot lights on your tach would signal a code with flashing lights no? Have it checked by a mechanic who can troubleshoot the codes if yours does that.
