This may sound crazy but does anyone know anything about what the surf fishing is like in Hawaii.

I've a got a once in a lifetime chance to be in Kauai on business next January(a real boon-doggle if there ever was one)and was wondering if anyone ever hit the suds out there.

I know I can have a great day on a charter boat, but I'd still like to give it a shot from the beach.

Any info would be appreciated.

Hawaii

If time affords you to take a charter do so. I was there last year and was looking to fish but did not. My first recomedation is to take a surfing lesson, It was the best thing. I love fishing and go three times a week. But the waves out there are incredible and so much fun on a surf board. I would wake up before work and surf. i would surf to the sun went down after work. It is not like the guys u see at gilgo, its the real thing. Definatly take advantage of the waves while you are out there , you would regret it. If i went again , i would plant myself on the surfboard the whole week.

Enjoy dont miss out.

What Island are you going to?

If you can sneak away for even a 1/2 day, some of the worlds best Marlin fishing is literally right off the coast of Kona! The best part of the deal is that the water is calm and the fares are very reasonable! Good luck!

The beach areas that I saw that looked good for fishing (a lagoon, full of bonefish!), were either off limits (swimmers), or being surfed. I did plug up some kind of monster looking 1/2 fish, 1/2 eel which thankfully spit the hook before I had to grab it!
