All joking aside, you should post some specifics if you have them such as lake size, species you'll target, any gear you already have, if you're going w/ someone who has gone icefishing before, etc.

Basically, you need a short pole and some small spoons and jigs. Buy spikes or moussys (types of maggots) or shiners to tip the lures with. Drop the bait to the bottom and reel up a turn or two and wait for a bite. If you don't have any action after 10 min. move and drill a new hole. Oh yeah, you'll need an auger.

use 8# line & 1/4 to 3/8 oz kastmasters or hopkins jigs w/single hooks i catch alot of lmb & yela perch on these jigs

Take a spud or a log stick with you to feel whats in front before stepping especially after a fresh snow fall it's no fun stepping into an old ice well or hole.
