Can I use braid with "hard chromed" guides or do I need minimally aluminum oxide guides? This will be on a trolling rod with heavy braid and about 18 punds of drag.
You need the best Aluminum Oxide guides not the cheap ones. Make sure the guides are rated for braided (synthetic) line. Hard chrome guides don't work.
Are you buying a rod, building a rod or having a rod built?
i was not looking for a custom. I was looking for a rather cheap stiff fiberglass rod to use for trolling in baja (I don't troll much at all)at the bass pro "power Plus rods" which have hard chromed guides or the Sea Lion rods that have aluminum oxide guides. If u have any other ideas for a "beater" trolling rod then post. It'll probably get banged up in a panga in baja.
