I use an Icom handheld (not sure of the model, its one that a lot of guys have) and its done very well. I've put it through its paces, serving duty both in the summer and in the winter when I'm out on the bay duck hunting- definitely wouldn't hesitate to buy another
Stick with an ICOM or STANDARD and you can't go wrong.
I have the IC-M88 and have friends with the the newer M-34 (Floater). The 34 is bigger than my M-88 but still small enough to use as a PFD clip-on or in a kayak. The M-88 is more $$, but can be converted to FRS if you are into hunting, camping, hiking , etc. The LI Ion batteries can't be beat!
