$38 a foot...Once again...money well spent in my case!!! The way I looked at it was there wasn't enough time or weather to get it down that far..She's 19 years old and it's never been done before. Thank God the previous owner started using Ablative paint when he did. That's all I ever used since I've owned her...Interlux Micron Extra W/ Biolux..Brown

I plan on useing the InterProtect 2000E kits..I will start off with a Gray coat first, then White, back to Gray, and then white to finish...Proper coverage is using 4 gallons. I figure a gallon a coat, so does the Interlux Rep...

shut all sea****s, disconnected raw water intake, pluged all thru-hull fittings, taped off exhaust and scuppers. Once it was all done went over with a hose and flushed everything out just in case...

Nice Work

One quick guestion. You said you barrier coated it right after the blasting. Then you said a glass man is coming for inspection on Monday.

Shouldn't you have waited for the inspection first. I have seen a few of these done (with bad results, Blisters)after the blasting. Then they addressed the blister problem, then barrier coated after the blister holes where corrected.

Please don't take this the wrong way and your have great boat, but at the same time it is also a cored hull. Wouldn't it of been better to wait for the inspection first then go through the procedure of refinishing.

From the pictures the hull looks fine and as stated not looking to start a tirate here just my me being curious.

Baywatch...

Well aware my friend...Glass guy is coming on monday...I do need some repairs and as soon as they are taken care of, then we Barrier coat and paint;););)..Thanks for the heads up though...good lookin out!!!

Clementin...I used shrink wrap tape to cover the bottom of the xducr. he did hit the fairing block which I do plan on adding a new bead of life-cauk where the fairing block meets the hull. This "SODA BLASTING" is so fine that it comes out of the gun at a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch target and basically bounces off the caulk. Just piece of mind adding more...

On a side note...If the boat is covered (SHRINK WRAP or otherwise covered) Leave the cover on the boat..Dust is an issue. I didn't cover the boat this year so there is some collection of dust on the topside...Nothing a shop-vac can't handle..

I also have a new BIMINI TOP on order. The canvas guys installed just the top but are still making the front and side curtains. I removed the entire framework and top prior to the Soda Blasting...

I took it as being B/C right after the blasting, just a fumble of words.

This can be a time consuming process becuase the B/C requires a certain ambient temp as well as being dry. The B/C is probably the most important step in the whole process, besides the repair which sometimes is like opening up Pandora's Box

Might even pick up a knot or 2 when finished.

The one I saw done that really sticks out in my mind was an older Pacemarker 40 ft. You had to see what that bottom looked like.

They spent weeks just doing blister work the onto the rest. Took 5 weeks to complete.

Ca Ching. $$$$

By you doing this the right way can add up 25 more years on that hull, especially a cored hull. You timed this one right.

Sounds like a lot of money just for the blasting ( which it is not) but in reality you have to be prepared for what you find after wards

Someday, the boat looks great!

I spent 6 hours yesterday doing it the old fashioned way. Respirator, glasses and a scrapper.

Next weekend I will get to work with the sander to smooth her out, but so far it is coming out pretty **** good.

I would love to go the soda blasting route, but that it is just not in the budget this year.

All said and done, I still enjoy getting under the boat and cleaning her up. Must be the idiot in me.

Hey...not for nothing guys and gulls but I had a pretty good season last year and the year before... This entire job has been on the budget for 2 seasons..(a penny saved is a penny earned!!!) I've done my homework several times over before starting this project and now it's time to put the thoughts and notes to action...

Not knowing what I would find after the blasting was completed I've even saved for the glass work...I have a good understanding of what I am capable of doing myself, but when it comes to glasswork I leave that to the pros!!! I'm sure if I look over the shoulder of the "GLASS GUY" I can get the gist of it, but nothing can take the place of that "Trust Factor" from the years of experience offered by the Pro's...

No truer words spoken especially on that ride

I was in BOAT YARD where the owner rented out one of his huge sheds to someone who built the Activator from scratch ( South Shore Boat Yard)). ( Tiny custom lets go fast boats)he even made the moulds for them. Really something to watch and learn.
Watching some of these true craftsman is mind boggling especially when they make it look so easy and the amazing part is they never get rattled.

Good luck with the boat and hopefully post some pictures of the repair phase, how long it took , then the rest of the process so this way anyone contemplating a project like this will know what to expect.

Should be a good thread for all.

Brad,
It came out nice. I had mine done two years ago. But $38 a foot sounds expensive. I had my 30 footer done, including the barrier coat and bottom pain (I bought the paint) for $1500! Guess Things are cheaper in RI?

1.) Things probably are cheaper in RI, and 2.) Blasting has become more popular and the prices have gone up accordingly.

I was going to blast my Sea Crafts bottom, but there was so much paint on there it "caked" and basically fell off wtih a bit of scraping. The rest I did with my DA and 80 grit sandpaper. Was not fun, but nonetheless I did it.

For a 26 foot boat with as much bottom in the water as the Fortier, I would definitely go with a blaster.

Scarping bottom paint is what I call "the best job in boat ownership" :)

No, the best part (and funniest part) is how everyone 'disappears' in Spring during these projects, then after launch day everyone has their fishing rods and tackle boxes ready and asking "when we goin fishin!?". True and ...almost funny.
