The Vicinity

Was at the Lina for the whole day
(9am - 4pm) had a beating on the way out but the rest of the day was great.

Lots of baitfish, clear water to 10'+ feet, but no action at all.

1 LARGE fish in slick 15'-20'+ for a few minutes.

Someone in the area reported "great White 25+'"

Don't know what I saw, but it was in the same size range.

basking shark

What you saw I would guess was a basking shark. There are almost no great whites around here anymore, and a basking shark can be easily mistaken as one as it is huge and has a big mouth. But basking sharks are filter feeders eating only tiny animals such as plankton and krill from the water. This is why all the reports of great whites never include the animal actually eating a bait - it's a basking shark and it doesn't eat fish normal shark baits.

Well, I went out to the HA buoy today and there wasnt a boat in sight. I figured out way... nothing around to be caught. On the way out managed to get a small mahi under a floating box about 18 miles out. From then on, it was crystal blue water, nicest water i have seen all season. Got to the HA buoy and saw one mahi take a bait and then spit it. Last i saw him, he was heading east. Trolled back for 7 miles and had one knockdown, small mahi, but jumped and spit the hook as well. A lot of weed out there, kept me busy checking the troll spread. Came back to cholera and fluked for an hour and was able to get a 26 inch 6+ pound fluke, not terrible. Wish the BFT were around the western part of the south shore. Maybe they'll show up in the mud hole vicinity in a few months. tight lines
