Fishermen looking for rods to jig Bass, Blues, Tuna, or Codfish might want to stop by Trophy Tackle to check out the new composite GUSA Jigging rods he has on the racks. Right now he has 3 models:
6' 30-50#
6' 50-80#
7' 50-80# (Wahoo Jr. Composite)

These all feature Fuji SIC guides and tips, and ALPS Aluminum reel seat and Gimbal. Guides are wrapped in Black and Purple, and I think John is taking orders for custom rods built on these blanks for guys who want them wrapped in their own colors.

I had these rod for two days before I delivered them to Trophy..Very impressive light & powerful..
I am now building two & had a chance to put a reel on one..I acid wrapped a Wahoo jr 7' composite with 25lbs of drag no stress on the angler or the rod..
If you into tuna, grouper, amberjacks or big snapper fishing these are the rod..Great for the noreast canyon & NC to the Fla keys..

IT's scary how light these are, and how much power they have, combined with the sweet bend. I got in John's Wahoo Jr Graphites, bent them side by side with teh COmposite Wahoo Jr - they have the same bend, with the graphite version having a tad more power in the butt - which should come as no surprise since it's all graphite. The Composite weighs 1 1/2oz more than the graphite version (6oz & 7 1/2oz). Both rated 50-80#

TFT's Wahoo Jr's, soon to be available wrapped and in his shop ready to fish.

Sorry for not getting in on this earlier.

The rods are awesome. We have them wrapped ready to go out the door in both conventional and Acid Wrapped. The 603 6' Jigging rod rated 50#-100# with an Accurate 870 or 665 2 speed is something to feel.
40ozs!!

Composite construction for increased durability and confidence that if you are less than perfect in your "technique" the rod will handle it.

Just an awesome piece of equipment.

We also have blanks in stock for the customer that doesnt want a spec rod.

Thanks very much Billy, just a great blank.

Hey everyone. The GUSA rods have been a big hit and we have sold quite a few rods. The spec rods we are carrying in the shop are not to everyones taste. Colors, grip placements, length. We can build the blanks to your specifications. Not a true custom (Simple factory wraps) but tailored to the users specific requirements. We are trying to get the rods out with the quickest turnaround times and of course we will not compromise on the quality.

The blank availability is excellent right now. We have blanks and completed rods in stock at the shop(in conventional and acid wrapped). Several builders on the site have blanks in stock as well. The irrepressible B40 is doing an awesome job to keep blank availability at their highest levels. So give one of us a shout and lets get you people into one of these GUSA composites.

We know you will be very satisfied.

Thanks,

John

Not that I would recommend it, but I asked the designer of the 602 (Roy HAstings) a while back how much weight I could hang off the tip of this rod. HE wasn't sure, so he took one and hung 42#'s off the tip. Now, while you wouldn't want to use this with 40#'s of drag, teh rod bent into a U, and did not break. TEH 603 & Wahoo Jr are both a bit more powerful than that blank, so it doesn't surprise me that the Trini 30 didn't have enough drag to stress the rod.

Were going to put the new accurate 30 on them & give them a try.. I like the fact that the more load there under the better they feel..

I can tell you that there selling fast..Once I put one in there hands & show them how the feel under load SOLD!!!!!!!!!..Great rod

Just got a report that a 42# Bass was taken on the 603 (6' 50-80#) on it's maiden voyage. Nice way to work in a new rod.

We also sent a pair of 603's to a customer who fishes 120 days a year down south. The rods will be used for short style jigging like we do here in the Northeast Canyons on tunafish.
We changed up the spacing on the rods with a shorter foregrip and longer backgrip. We took another 4oz of weight out of the rod by going with Fuji graphite reel seats and gimbals. The Alps gear is awesome but is a little heavier which to some may make a difference.

Some other rods in the works are an 80Mega going to be used for toggin and some bass fishing.

A Predator for tilefish and wreckfish.

A pair of Wahoo Jr. Composites that are going to be used for everything!

Seane also finished a 4' Stand up rod for a customer at the shop. I cant wait to see the finished product. When I pulled on the blank at the NERBS meeting the power came on very fast and shut right down.

It has been a busy time at the shop for GUSA rods.

Here is a picture of that blank (OURC 40H) holding 30#'s off the floor. This is the lightest of the 4' Uni Butt blanks GUSA has. They also have these blanks (in 3 weight classes) for those wanting a straight through trolling rod in 5'2, 5'8, and 6'2 lengths.

Its seems that's all I do I guess it's not just me...The best is when you get half of the guides you need or the gimbals & no reel seats
..I do want to thank all who help me get what I need...B40 , TFT & Merrick............

Unfortunately that is the nature of the beast. Everything is always backordered too, regardless of where you buy stuff from. I keep a decent amount of "cheaper" components for conventional/spiral wrapped rods in stock (Fuji Alconites and size 20-24 reel seats). Just last night I ordered a BUNCH of secret stash ALPS reel seats for these GUSA composites. Can't wait to get everything, and color coordinate the grip, seat, gimbal, blank, and guide wraps.
