After seeing the discussions re the possibility of using soft plastics for grouper, decided to give it a try on our Wilmington, NC trip 5/31 - 6/1. Here they are. Right out the Alaska halibut book. For reference, those jigheads are, from left to right, 8, 12, & 16 oz.
That ought to give them something to chew on! And I suspect the AJs will whack 'em too!

Yeah, we'll have tons of knife-style jigs. OTI's, Williamson, River2Sea, etc. Used them on the last trip. Unbelievable for the AJ's. Just thought might try something different and more targeted at grouper, as well. Assuming weather holds, we'll be posting pics! :)

I think those jigs will work just fine on the Grouper. When Kil fished with me recently all he was using was a hammered diamond jigs sometimes tipped with squid, he seemed to catch everything on them. Fishing AJ'S last week I was using Tady 4/0 and williamson jigs couldn't keep the AK'S and Cobia off them. Going to fish a few wrecks on the east side of Cape Lookout on my trips this weekend going to try the Hogy out same concept as above. We'll see how it goes. Ken

Any given day each one may seem to perform better but overall I imagine little difference. I notice Kil used the gold while bottom fishing in TX so he must prefer them OR that may have been all he had available lol. But both will work.

Angelo,

Well that seems to be my problem!!! all they had today were chrome.I am scheduled on a 24hr grouper trip fri to sat.So we'll see how they work out. Ken has been killing the Scamp grouper with the Gold and he is out of town for the week so I cant get a hold of the gold. Iam trying to put a trip together with him for the last two weekends in August. I got one all ready. Keep it in mind if you wanna come down

Angelo, I have no preference betweend gold and chrome. I experimented both of them for long, but I don't see any difference.
I just picked up goldend hammered diamond jigs on the Big E just because I saw the jig first in my bag. :)
