Thats pretty awesome !! You can't really judge the size of that shark by that video, but it looks pretty good anyway.
Years ago, I stayed with a forty foot dead finback (MakoMatt was with me)for a whole day and it didn't even produce a blue shark. Someone on the boat had to get back, or we would have stayed with it for a couple of days. Those were the days when you could take a Great White. Anyway, WHAT A STINK !!

Captainhookem, those were the days, uh? The smell from that would repeat on you every now and then for a week after we got back, worst thing I ever smelled was that dead whale. Too bad we couldn't stay with it, I'm sure they would have showed up sooner or later. We should scan some of those pictures and post them.

I have seen 2 Great Whites in my 7 years Offshore fishing ! the 1st time I saw one it was about 18-20 footer while Sharking at the Coimbra .... It came from under the boat and I thought it was gonna attack the chum bucket !! the head was at least 3-4 feet across...Guessing it weighted about 2-3 thousand lbs !!

The 2nd time I saw the Great White was just last June Sharking on the Charter Boat " Bottom Line " We were fishing at the Barcardi ... it was about a 15 footer.... It's always exciting to see those big creatures swimming around the boat !!

Shudda have gaff the whale and tie it up to an anchor and hold the spot... mark ur GPS then go back in few days later ( with a Mask ) maybe u can have 10 Whites swimming around and practice Tag and Release ..... LOL

Speaking of huge sharks.....

Did anyone else see all those huge basking sharks we had off Long Island this summer? Every once in a while I see them, but this summer I must have seen 25 of them. I even saw them jumping. There great for taking pictures because they will swim all around the boat. I'm not sure why they were there in such great numbers.

Just recently, I was reading about how Mundus used to shark fish. He used to use pilot whales & basking sharks as chum/bait. On that very same site, I read that it is illegal to use mammals as a bait or chum. This I could understand. The web site asso says that it is illegal to fish around a dead whale. Is this true?

a freind of mine fished with mundus years ago when he was back in montauk, he used to feed pilot whles dynamite , blow thier stomachs open , automatic chum slick!

I had a twenty footer off Montauk one time..had to stick three barrels in him. You can't haul em up like a lot of catfish.

Vessel went down in twelve minutes...1,100 men went in the water. We didn't see the first shark for about an hour...tiger..thirteen footer. You know how you know that when your in the water...you tell by looking from the dorsal to the tail...........................................

you tell by looking from the dorsal to the tail.....what we didn't know was our bomb mission was so secret...no distress signal was sent. They didn't list us over due for a week.....first light....sharks come cruising. So we formed ourselves into tight little groups.......
