Lessons ??

Since we have a few people that bought new machines, maybe we could set up a "Mini-School" and some of you experts can show us some of the basics and how to set them up. Maybe 1 or 3 people to show fish finders, and then some for GPS, Etc... Just an idea.

I myself could use some help on the Furuno 600L and also the Garmin 182C GPS. Some people have all ready offered to help me, Somoan, Meriowitz, Baywatch.. and I will be taking them up on it. But maybe we could do one class and ask others to come down to one place. Lets see what happends.

I'de be happy to share my experience with guys that have the 600L. I think it is best to wait until the boat is in the water to see all of the fuctions, rather than discuss it on land. Nothing like hands on. One thing I would like to learn on this unit is how to find the thermocline.

I also have the Garmin 232 chartplotter with the NOAA software, which is the same unit as 182, only it has a larger screen and is not color. I have it interfaced with an SL72 2kw Raymarine radar. I recommend that if you purchased new machines, read the entire instruction manual from front to back to familarize yourself with it.

5ofaKind, I live in Blue Point, when you have your boat in the water send me over an email.

Furuno

I have the FCV 600 L amnd it is a good machine.

Read and play with it.

Transom mount transducer is a little tricky though.

Follow mounting instruction to the letter.

Just put my boat in the drink with the new 600l with the thru hull xducer, Did anyone use the ground stud on the back? & if so what did you connect it to? I also notice alot of "noise" when cruising, ive been trying to filter it out,any suggestions.
Thanks in advance

Furuno 600L

Hey everyone , I took the boat down to Hecksher this morning to try out the new machine. When I first turned it on at the dock it was not reading the bottom .As I was pulling out of the cove it started working really well. Then the whole screen would be cluttered with (noise)Sometimes it would read the correct depth other times it would read crazy numbers like 350ft. It was way to windy to play around with it.When I got home I moved the trasducer away fron the engine(see pic,the white is where I filled in the old holes)Another thing is I did not have the Earth Ground as it is called in the manual hooked up(its a ground on the back of the machine with a wing nut)Can this cause crazy problems like I was having if not hooked up?Can I hook that up to where I have the regular ground for the machine on? I have twin outboards so I hope I have it far enough away from the starboard motor.I called Consumers(where I bought it)and they said make sure the transducer wire is not near the VHF(it is not).Any suggestions(Makomagic, baywatch)? My home number is 580 2101 Thanks ,Rich

SS2...same engine on my boat...I hope this thread continues 'cause I just hooked up my 600L ...Only have the transducer to do. I found some transducer info on this unit to install & differs greatly. Still unsure on the ground also...I grounded the wing nut in the rear but does the transducer "outer" ground have to be grounded also.. Nuff said, or asked..Someone else take a turn...thanks, roger

What is the transducer "outer" ground? My transducer wire is sealed into the transducer and the other end plugs right intot he unit .Do you have the same transducer as me ? The Furuno 525ST-PWD (Airmar P-66).If it does not rain and no heavy winds I will give it a try tomorrow after work .Hope it works I want to leave it in my slip!

The transducer cable has white (+) & black (-). Inside the black covering there is a mesh silver lining that my instructions say to gound. Wondering if it is really necessary , if you ground the unit from the rear unit wingnut. Would like to keep this thread alive to find all the answers, thanks, roger
