Goose flies into LIPA pole; hundreds lose power

Hundreds of North Hempstead residents lost power yesterday morning when a large goose flew into a utility pole, knocking wires out of service, a spokeswoman for the Long Island Power Authority said.
About 568 customers lost power after the 10 a.m. incident, with almost all power restored within 90 minutes, said spokeswoman Elizabeth Flagler.
The utility pole was at Herricks Road and Center Street, Flagler said.
