I am going to be in East Hampton this weekend - never fished the Island - any suggestions on where I can/should wet a line locally? Dog days of August, but I'd appreciate some locations, including east out to Montauk, bait and good tackle shop to get it, or lure choices for this time of year. Thank you.

Ok, I have to post this just in case, my g-friend challenged me to prove how helpful and nice the members of this site are by getting invited out on someone's boat and bringing home dinner....anyone want company this weekend??? It would have the added bonus of helping me justify to her why I spend so much time reading the posts these days. (I have the equipment and would contribute as well.)

Tin from any ocean beach during the day. Unweighted eels at night. The place that sells you the eels will give you up-to-date info on where to swim them. Good luck on the boat!

Tell ya what, chauffer me, and feed me, and I will guide.

Flounder

PS: You have to share the bait and the girlfriend too.

thanks flounder, sounds just like the cape, hopkins and kastmasters while the sun is up, sling eels in the dark, but up there i always have sand eels on a high low righ in the water as well - what about this method on the island? also, any rec. on who to get my eels from? finally, i can drive, feed and bait ya but she did not mention herself in the bargain so touch her and you are the bait! haha

Fishing Spots- East Hampton

Try behind the White Sands Motel on the Napeague stretch just east of Amagansett. Also, Atlantic or Indian Wells beaches in Amagansett before 9 or after 6 when parking permits aren't needed. You might want to check in with Harvey Bennett at the Tackle Shop on the eastern edge of Amagansett. He knows where the fish are. If he is in a good mood he might even tell you. Welcome to East Hampton. Give the bay side a shot too at Accabonac Harbor in the Springs section of East Hampton. Bring your girl and a glass of wine around sunset. You'll think you are in the Bahamas

Without a doubt, Shinne**** is outproducing all areas of the East End right now. Day & night has produced 20+ lb. bass, bluefish, Albie's, bonita and an occasional spanish mac. You will need the Suffolk Co. permit to drive the beach, but it will be worth it. Talk to Ken Morse @ Tight Lines Tackle in Sag Harbor, he will lead you in the right direction and not stretch the truth.

Good luck.

Do I need to go oversand to get access? Can you provide info re the Suffolk permit...cost, where to get it, over sand kit required? Can you be a little more specific re where to wet a line? I'll also contact Ken.
Thank you.

You don't need to go oversand at shinne****. There is a parking lot just past the guard house. I don't think the parking passes go on sale until after labor day. The permits on LI are soooo confusing. I've parked there w/out the pass though. If you're out by 8:00Am you should be OK. I'd recommend fishing there from pre dawn to about 8:00. It's a good walk to the jetty pocket out front or just fish the back.
