So last year, I nailed a large Rainbow Trout in Gerritsen Creek on Live Bunker, I also saw a dead one washed up on shore, a few weeks prior to my catch. So I spoke to someone in Modell's today in Ceasar's Bay and he told me, that as a science project in Kingsborough, him and his participating group members purchased over $500 worth of live Rainbows from a Chinese grocery store, part of this research project they fed them local food, Peanut Bunker, clams and whatever else. After the class was completed they released them into Gerritsen Creek/Plumb Beach parking lot somewhere in May. They said they let go about 200 with larger ones rounding up to about 8 pounds.
What this guy did was highly illegal, and it amazed me that I mangaged to raise one up, somewhere in August I believe. That means they have some way to adapt to our waters. I never caught another one after that, and it was doubted by all tackle shops I spoke to, as a lie.
