Any Smithtown residents on here ever use the free chips and mulch the town of Smithtown bags and gives away FREE to residenrs?
If so what is the quality we are talking about?
I believe it's made from the collected branches and brush across the town.

We have the same stuff here in Ridgefield. Thats what it is, at least here. It's not really that bad, but there are lots of tree companies that give pretty clean wood chips away. Most of them don't want to be bothered with them.

There are a few places near me here that will even deliver them for free within 10 miles.

I just drag my little trailer to them and fill it up
..........it's not cedar mulch, but it's good for other areas.

I usaully try to get it before the spring is in full bloom, that way the chips are pretty clean, without leaves and crap.............and no bugs.................

One word of caution. There is a type of mold that grows in wood chips that will spread to and adhere to other surfaces (like boats) and is almost impossible to get off without sanding. If you guys use these chips be careful where you put them.
