doing a job for a customer who insisted on buying 24x24 porcelain tiles for his basement/den. so now im installing over 1k sq/ft of these monsters that the guys wife will most likely hate so much, im sure ill be breaking them out by next year

needless to say, my wet saw cant make the diagnol cuts on the tiles, as it just wasent made to handle tiles this big, and he insists on laying them at a 45' angle. and apparently, none of the rental companies ive called have one that can cut them either. biggest one i found can do diag's on an 18" but no bigger

anyone possibly have a lead on a good rental co in nassau or suffolk that caters to large-scale machines/tools and may have one for me?? ive had no luck calling several already, and none seem to know either as this is quite the large piece of material to be working with.

you most likely will have to go to United tool rental for a saw that big
theres 2 1 in Bohemia 262 McCormick Drive

and 1 in Flushing 28-44 College Point Boulevard

What you may need is a gas powered cut off saw and a pump sprayer filled with water to cut them

This may save you some time on the site with the cuts. Bring a few boxes to a marble shop and have them cut your starting rows so that you can get a jump on the installation. They have the right equipment and can do this the day before you do the job.

Id cut them with a 12" partner saw. Mark them, lay them down flat and use a piece of weighted strapping for a straight edge. If you really want to use a wet saw, a regular 20-24" saw will do, if the guard on the edge of the table is in the way either take it off or raise up the table with a couple pieces of plywood glue it on with liquid nails if you have to.

Why can't you just score and break them, instead of using a wet saw. The other thing you could try is just using a skill saw with the fiber blade

i could score and break them, but at 8.25 PER TILE, im not in the mood to risk breaking many tiles. thats the reason i need a wet saw that i can actually use the table. the cuts are too **** long to try and keep them straight by hand. a 12x12 i have no issue cutting freehand, not a 24x24.

still none said they had a saw who's table can hold a 24" tile in the 45'

and i sure as **** aint spending no 5 grand on buying one for myself, thats almost my entire labor bill right there

If you looked on that link that I posted you'd see that most tile contractors don't even have saws that will cut 24"X24" tile....so the likelyhood of you finding a rental joint that has one is pretty remote.

What they suggested to a guy with a similar question to yours was to bring it to a place that will water jet cut it or to a place that has a bridge saw.

I ran into somthing similiar once.
I had to cut marble floor tiles that were 18" x 36" x3/4" thick.
When we recieved the tiles, none of them were the same dimension.
Ordering new ones were out of the question.
Nobody knew where to get them cut.
My guys in the field decided to take a regular table saw, put the right 10" blade in and proceeded to run a hose over the blade as it cut the tile. Worked perfectly!
Maybe you could rig up something like that for the cuts.

can you make a extention ofr your table so the tile hangs off the table ?kinda like a large panal cutter for a table saw .you could set it up like a jig so just drop in the tile and wack it off.i dont know what kinda saw you have but it mite work?
