Is it better to use fluorocarbon leader rather than monofilament leader when drifting for fluke? Western LI Sound. Also, what weight leader do you prefer - 20 or 30 lb. test?

Hello Melfluke,

Good question!
It all depends on the water clarity - otherwise it can be very costly!

Another words if the water is gin clear, I would definitely use fluorocarbon leader instead of mono. Also, you may want to consider heavier than 20 or 30 lb. test rigs because a true doormat will have no problem biting through that line. I?ve use 50 and 60 lb. test with great results.

Also, if you are planning to bucktail for fluke? consider fluorocarbon leaders in the 40lb. test!

I always use fluorocarbon leaders for fluke. Yes they cost more, but you certainly aren't going to catch fewer fish by using them. I try to take every edge that I can get.
