Fluke Fishing: PROHIBITED!!!!!

7836 Views 71 Replies 25 Participants Last post by  loligo
This will be a reality in the very near future if we don't act now.

This isn't just a Jersey thing either, it's a federal closure of ALL fluke fishing. Recreational, Commercial the whole thing.

The enviros are after the most popular fishery on the east coast. Party boats, Charter boats, Bait and Tackles, Skiff rentals are in jeopardy. How many can survive a total closure of the fluke fishery? Right now it's the fluke, but where will it stop?

I urge you to check out www.ssfff.net to learn more and hopefully act, spread the word and prevent this from happening. From what I gathered at the meeting last night, '09 may be lost, so do something.

Ignore it..............and it will go away.

The sky is falling, The sky is falling!

Id worry more about the price of oil going to $150 a barrel. Then you wont have to worry about Fluke, Bass, Tog and anything else that swims because no one will be able to afford fuel to go fishing......

$150 barrel oil

Oil WILL BE 150.00 per barrel within the next few years. This time last year oil was $70.00, and market media (all the commentators on CNBC) were saying "imagine 100.00? per barrel. This year we've seen high 90's. The dollar is losing value abroad. Commentators now say "imagine 160.00" per barrel. Unless demand decreases, or supply increases, it'll keep going up. Exponentially with trouble in different parts of the world. It stinks. And the oil companies have record profits.
Even if they do close fluke for a while, they'll open it back up eventually.

But a lot of boats and businesses will go under if the fishery is closed. And they won't be coming back when it does reopen/

IOW, who cares?

Hmmm.....
That's correct, JR.

And even if they do outlaw all gasoline-burning engines on the roadways tomorrow, when they do come up w/ an alternative, the world will be a better place.

But first, let's solve the imaginary fisheries crisis, then we'll address the real problems.

Nah, they effect too many of the population. So let's stick w/ chasing the windmills. It makes the real environmental abusers feel so good about themselves. So let's all string up our hosues w/ lights to get those ggreenhouse gases pumping out of the power stations, turn up the heat a bit or light a wood fire in the house, and drive to relatives' houses in our gasoline-powered vehicles, at excessive speeds (and drive home w/ a few ****tails in us, because drinking and driving for a reason is not really bad), and make sure that whomever we speak w/, we emphasize the crisis our fisheries are in.

Happy Christmas

Paul

Speak for yourself! The only fuel burnt is reserve fat... only Gas expended was courtesy of Taco Bell.

Fuel is not going to get cheaper. Hopefull alternatives will be created and implemented in a meaningful way and numbers to mitigate our dependency.

Diesel engine powered boats, with a conversion can run on veggie fuel. In the future, when times get really tough thats what I'll do.

And for bay fishing...use my Pungo 12 kayak.....and get pulled around by bluefish and big bass.
Does anyone know where Chuck Schmuer stands on getting H.R 4087 passed?
Yep thats right Capt. Paul.

Uh huh, lets ride around America in thirsty luxury 4 WD SUV's and tell everyone what glutinous fools we are.......;)
How the **** did this go from flounder to oil?

I agree that the price of oil sucks, and if it continues to go up, there won't be many people on MOTOR boats.

But while I can afford it, I'd like to be able to catch some flounder.

I can't stomach the thought of someone else's IDEOLOGY being forced on me.

Which is basically all this is about.

Well, if you don't want to recognize the "ideology" aka fishery laws,
just ignore them and your problem is solved.

Exactly...closing it-even if they were then to reopen it- would be a disaster.
Infastructure....has already been ruined, due to imports and AMERICAN fishermen not being able to provide due to over regulation and the free trade agreement.
I Love the idea.....Mandatory catch and release!! LOL!
I love the idea of fishery wide non-compliance.......EFF them catch what you can and sell them or barter them to your local egg foo yungery and be happy, life is to short to go around and worrying about paying tickets for fisheries violations,,,,,,,,
