Ya know,as i read through the recent reports from folks who are out there trying to put together a catch of flounder and I compare what I read to my own experiences over these recent years I notice a common thread. if you look at some of the recent reports, guys talk about putting down their first bait and immediately hooking up with a Flounder and then....NOTHING for4 the rest of the day! It's happened to me too. This ,to me , indicates how sparsely the Flounder are sprinkled throughout the bays we fish.

it irks me to think of how little is being done about the severly depleted Flounder stocks.

I,ve read that according to the DEC, the Flounder populations are just fine.......!!??

Well, all I can say is ....hey ,I've also read that Saddam Hussien claims that the Coalition is nowhere near baghdad and that Iraqi victory is near at hand...lol.

But ,seriously, these kinds of blatant BS stories really insult one's intelligence.

I think it's time that recreational fishermen really get together and lobby hard for a COMMERCIAL and RECREATIONAL MORATORIUM ON WINTER FLOUNDER!!

While nothing like "the good ole days", this season in NJ is the best in quite a few years. I've been hearing of 10 to 15 keepers by better anglers on the head boats and even more on the small boats. Another thing that is promising is the influx of shorts, which were almost non existent the past few seasons. Give things another couple weeks and I'll bet that there'll be an improvement in New York as well. I was preaching a moratorium last year, but my thoughts have changed a bit...Just my $.02.

FLOUNDERS

Gama,
I had noticed last year that the Flounder seemed to be picking up. I truely believe our lousy weather, along with the cold run-off of rain, has kept Long Island from getting much bite, but as the waters begin to warm,as they seem to have done in N.J.,we will begin to see our share. I am cautiously optimistic that Flounder is making a slight recovery. I don't feel they have been heavily fished in many years, and perhaps,it's beginning to show.
