Hey all
I am heading down to Florida April 10 - 14th. Flying into Ft Laurderdale. Never fished in Florida before.

Where is the best place that time of
year ? Open to south Florida, east coast, keys. Anywhere reasobably driveable from FLL.

I was thinking of heading down to the keys, stopping at islamorada, but most of the time in Key west. Whats biting there ?

I am still in the planning stage and thought ask if there was anywhere else I should consider.

I can stay anywhere they take marriott points and was thinking of doing some split charters and party boat fishing.

Also, Know any captains and is anyone else heading down there looking to split a charter ?

Thanks in advance.

You only have three nights, dont waste so much time sitting in the car between FLL and Key West and back. For a short visit like yours stay in FLL at the Marriot on the Intercoastal do a sailfish charter. Rent a car drive south to Key Largo stay at the Marriot Key Largo, only 15-20 minutes north of Bud and Marys marina in Islamorada. Also in between the hotel and B & M there are a few rent your own places. About 100 to 150 a day for a 17 to 21' CC a couple a dozen shrimp a bag of ice and hit the mangoves. (all the little rental places have charts w/ bait stores and honey spots well marked.
While in Isla you can do offshore for Sails and Mahi as well as inshore for Tarpon. Tarpon is ushually a 1-2 man charter, B & M has a few party/split charters When staying at the Marriott KL have at least one dinner at the Fish House and check out World wide Sportsman.
Option 2. Blow off FLL altogether and head right to Key Largo I like the first plan better because many times I have left Ocean Reef (Key Largo) to fish FLL or West Palm because diff. temps. hotter bite etc. FLL and Isla are far enough apart to get two different shots at Sails/mahi/Tarpon/Blackfin Tuna etc

I would go straight to Islamorada. If you are just fishing and don't have the family with you stay at the Key Lantern Motel.About $50.00 per night. It is right in front of Loreli's.Which is a major hang out for everybody. If you are going with the family try the Islander accross the street.Pool;etc.
Lots of chartgers available within a 2 mile radius. I can give you recomendations for Reef, Tarpon, and offshore if you need them.

Spoke to Capt Mike Brumm Yesterday in Islamorada. The King Mackrel bite is good right now.So is the bite for grouper, yellowtail and other reef fish. In April the reef bite is good plus you are in prime Tarpon season.Sails may be in the picture depending on if they started the migration back up the coast.
Capt Mike can be reached at 305-3930990.

April

Thanks for all input everyone.

I called Mike Brumm yesterday as well. Spoke to his wife I think. They were real nice. Most likely gonna do a split charter, or maybe night tarpon.

Thinking now that I am gonna do one night in Key Largo. One night in islamorada somewhere. Then head out to key west for Sat and Sunday nights. I know it's a lot of driving, but figure it will be pretty at least.

I can't resist using the marriot points instead of paying cash. Leaves more bux for fishing.

Anybody know any captains in key west ?
