JUNE 18 - The bluefishing the past 3 days has been good. The fish have been a little more picky since the weekend but the better fishermen are still catching their limits plus. Other people are still catching anywhere from a few to a dozen. The good clientele aboard usually makes sure that everyone onboard has all the fish they need. The striped bass fishing had slowed but today showed positive signs of more fish coming thru. The boat had 3 keeper bass & released a bunch of short fish on todays trip. Weekday crowds have been sparse so if you can sneak a weekday in it's best for you.

Well I have bad news & I have good news. First the bad news. Fridays fishing was off both day & night. The daytime had only a fair catch of blues and the night only saw a couple keeper bass & some short action. Now the good news, today saw lots of action with the stripers. A good crowd of people enjoyed fast steady action with hundreds of bass being caught. Most of the fish fell just shy of the size requirements but we were able to keep around 25, a few being better sized. Only a smattering of blues but an excellent day.

Since the bassacre on Sat. we've only seen a few bass. The bluefishing remains pretty good. Sun. was just a pick but like always the better fishermen caught plenty. Monday was a no sail due to lack of interest. Tuesday bluefishing was good for a small crowd. Today (Wed) a decent weekday crowd saw good bluefishing and perfect weather. The better fishermen catch their limits early on and then either play catch & release or give fish to the passengers who need a few more. The action is usually hot & heavy in the morning till mid-day when the fish and the birds take a siesta. If you enjoy chasing schools of fish on top you'd love the action we've been having.

Don't forget our Fri-Sat evening bass trips. I spoke with our night captain who runs other boats during the week. He told me the bass fishing has been red hot since the weekend at night. They've been catching hundreds of fish for small crowds. Most of the bass have to be returned but there are a good amount of keeper size fish in the mix and a few jumbo's.

Bluefishing has remained red hot this whole past week. A few bass in the mix some days. Amateur and experienced fishermen are all catching limits. Today Capt. Bob had one drift that lasted for nearly 2hrs with fish flying over the rails all the time. That helps save on fuel instead of having to chase the schools. Weekdays see plenty of room at the rail so now that schools out try to sneek in a weekday if possible with your kid(s).
Friday nights bass trip had good results for a small crowd. Lot's of short action with enough keepers mixed in to satisfy everyone. They were out Saturday night also with another small crowd but I haven't gotten a report yet.
We are located right off the Knapp St. exit of the Belt Pkwy behind the UA Movie Theatre (not in SHB). Plenty of free parking available.

This Fri evening is our annual Macy's fireworks trip so the boat will not be fishing.

Since I usually update only a couple times a week I felt the need to update yesterdays report today. Bluefishing was very poor today for some reason. A SE swell combined with a strong running tide shut the fish down. They did catch some fish but nothing like it had been. Hopefully it will bounce back quickly. One bright spot is that they did catch 4 keeper striped bass today.

Well we had 2 slow days of bluefishing but today the fishing was much improved. The boat had a good catch of large size blues up to 12lbs for patrons today. I wasn't at the boat but the captains son Robert who mated today called to give me the report. I'll be out of town for a few days but hope that everyone has a Happy Independence Day and if fishing's your pleasure come down and spend a day jigging tem blues. I'll update the fishing again next week and hope to have banner reports from the weekend.

The fishing over the weekend was on the slow side I've been told. I was hoping for better. Maybe it was weekend boat traffic. I returned today from a weekend vacation and didn't know what they were talking about. We had a very good catch of blues today in the 6-12lb range which kept us busy gaffing and then filleting all day. The better fishermen caught their limits if they wanted and everyone else had plenty to bring to the cleaning table. Hope the fishing holds up.
They were out for the fireworks Fri night and didn't fish. Sat. night once again saw a small crowd enjoy lots of action with the striped bass. They had about 40 short bass and 4 keepers and blues for a handful of people.

This week has seen excellent bluefishing everyday on sizes L-XXL with the passengers catching as many as they want up to the 15 fish limit. Weekday crowds have been limited but not the fishing. The weather has been excellent also so don't be scared of the weathermans predictions of possible T-storms that don't happen or happen hours after a great day of fishing. The crew as always is on top of things with rigs, gaffs (not nets) and excellent fish cleaning service. I spoke to one regular on the boat today & he said they didn't really get into the fish until 9:30 & he had all he wanted by 10:00 and he fishes for his limit !!!
We also sail on weekend nights for stripers which has also been good from the reports I've heard this week and our boat is rarely crowded for these trips.

Weekend Report

Saturdays bluefishing was decent with both large fish and the good eating size also. Sunday saw a slowdown in fishing with a strong SE breeze blowing colder water into the area. Water temps dropped to as low as 55 degrees in some areas. They still managed to catch but not nearly as good as it was during the week. It goes to figure that during the week with light crowds fishing is excellent & come the weekend with good crowds fishing slows. Some recent catches aboard our boat.

July 14-17

Monday was a no go, not because of lack of customers but they didn't hang around. One group came & left, then another same thing plus several stragglers. If everyone stayed the trip would've been a go but thats OK because Capt. Bob got a much needed day off . Tuesdays fishing was excellent for a small group who bagged up on fish & were back before 2:00pm. Wednesday we had a nice sized group who caught plenty but they were a little more picky. Better fishermen caught very well & others had just a few but "EVERYONE" had fish to bring home that they caught themselves. Today saw excellent fishing right off the bat in the morning and then they picked away at them for the rest of the day. All week the bluefish have been good sized in the 6-10lb range.
We are sailing everyday at 6:30am till 2-3pm jigging blues with occassional stripers & weaks mixed in. We also sail Fri & Sat evening at 7:00pm targeting Striped Bass. The day fare is only $55 for a full day and our night bass trips are only $45 for a 6 hour trip. Hope you can join us. For more info click on our premium sponsor icon to your left.

Up To July 22

Over the weekend the blue fishing can be only described as fair. They had some good shots at the fish and a few of the better fishermen were able to manage close to their limits but not as good as we would've liked. Mostly good sized fish though.
Monday's blue fishing started off with excellent action right of the bat in the morning on good sized fish but slowed afterwards. They did manage a few more shots at the fish during the day and overall it was a good day fishing.
Today (Tuesday) they started off bluefishing inside Sandy Hook with good fishing on coctail sized blues for the first couple of hours. The fishing slowed for awhile but after the tide change they were able to locate the better sized blues and ended the day jigging them quite well for the last few hours. It turned out to be an excellent day. Pool fish of 10lbs or better on all these trips.
I finally got a night bass report which I had to read in the New York posted reports on this web site (July 22). Sounds like a good night with 6 keepers, lots of short action and some blues mixed in for what I already knew was a small crowd.

---- July 28

Sorry for being a little tardy with the reports. The bluefishing this week has been up & down. We've seen several days where the fishing has been excellent with everyone catching plenty of larger sized fish up to 12lbs & other days that we see the fish swirling on top but they were picky when it came to catching them. That's why it's called fishing. For a change the weekend warriors on Saturday saw excellent fishing for a good crowd and yesterday it was only decent. Today was another tough day on the fishing front but the way it's been tomorrow we'll bang'em again. We are hoping for the fishing to become more consistent.
On the night striped bass front the fishing was OK this weekend. Not the greatest amount of keepers (only 7-9 each night) but there was good action with undersized fish.
Wish I could show you some pictures but getting the crew to snap some has been a challenge. I'll have some soon.

July 29-30

I've said that the bluefishing has been up & down recently & we could bang-em again anytime. Well yesterday & today the fishing was on the up & up. After a disappointing trip on Monday they did very well on medium sized (4-8lb) bluefish yesterday. It wasn't a slaughter but they enjoyed good, consistent action with the jigs all day & ended up putting a very good catch together. That was the first up, today was the second up. In addition to enjoying good action with bluefish again our customers were treated to some good striped bass fishing as well. It wasn't a slaughter once again but they figured in addition to the blues they had about 50 short stripers and managed to put 8 keeper bass in the bucket. That was Tues & Wed and is history now. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Capt. Bob reports the daytime bluefishing has remained pretty good this week. The early part of the week the fish bit during the beginning or end of the tide because of strong currents during the rise & fall. You had to make sure you were in the right place at the right time. That's where everyday experience comes into play. Since then the tides have eased and the fishing got better. They are biting throughout the tides now & fish have been of mixed sizes from coctails to 10lb gaffers. Everyone has been catching there fill. There have been quite a few stripers in the mix but for the most part have been short.
The night striped bass trips over the weekend were excellent with the boat limiting out on keepers & plenty of short action also. Nothing huge (up to 20lbs) but boat limits were caught.

We sail open boat:

6:30am everyday (full day ocean) blues, stripers, weakfish.

7:00pm Fri-Sat evenings -- stripers, blues, weakfish.

The fishing has remained excellent since the middle of last week. Capt. Bob reports the bluefish have finally settled into the NY Bight area aka.("THE GARDEN"). Fish are ranging in sizes from 3lbs up to 13lbs with most fish being in the 5-8lb range. Long runs have not been necessary for our patrons to catch their 15 bluefish per person limits and then play catch & release till they've had enough. Most days are still seeing mostly short striped bass mixed in the catch with a few keepers. The weather has been beautiful and fishing is super but plenty of room at the rail is available daily. Hope you can find time to take advantage of the fishing and the weather before summer is gone.

Our schedule remains:

6:30am everyday full day ocean (Blues, Stripers, Weakfish)

7:00pm Fri-Sat nights targeting (Striped Bass).

WE'RE STILL HAVING A GOOD TIME !!!!!

Bluefishing remains excellent. Today they bagged up on coctails early right outside of our dock (the good eating size) then bagged up on medium to large fish with schoolie bass mixed in. Then for good measure they slammed the larger blues again & again & again after the tide change.
Weather is great , fishing is awesome, summers almost gone.

Good fishing continued again today. The blues have been in the 5-8 lb range with quite a few double digit sized fish mixed in. Weather during the "day" has also been great despite the weathermans dire T-storm predictions. Didn't see any stripers today but most days are seeing shorts mixed with a few keepers.
