For what it's worth, I don't follow some of the flag rules! I fly mine ALL the time, lit ,raining or not. I feel that the flag should be flown 24/7 365 days rain, fog sleet, snow, hale or in the dark!!!!

Interesting topic, because of the timing. I'm on the Board of a townhouse community. One of the homeowners recently complained about a neighbor who has fastened a large American Flag to the garage door of his townhouse. The complaining homeowner asked to Board to have the the neighbor remove the flag as undignified. The flag is not illuminated at night.

The request prompted a debate, most of us on the Board feeling that at this particular time, the issue was a sensitive one and should not prompt a directive from the Board.

The community of course permits you to display a flag in a flagpole holder.

Any thoughts?

Support

I myself do not have one flying as of yet due to weather conditions and need a new one also.

I think a show of support is a must at this time weather or not you are pro or con for the Iraq issue.

I know that if I had a son or daughter over there it would be a comfort to me and my family knowing that I had the support of my friends and neighbors in these dire times. And the only way to show support is by flying the flag.

Let it fly and be pround of it, that is what our many Veterans have fought for in the past.

To many liberals are ruining this country. Yes they have a right to voice there opinion but for once everyone should unite.

Bill, I agree that it is not only patriotic, but appropriate, for a flag to be displayed at this time. But is it undignified to tack it to a garage door when you could just as easily display it on a flagpole? The website that Fishologist posted indicates that a flag should "never be fastened, displayed, used or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way."

Hi all.

For many years I have displayed Our Nations Colors! Mostly on Holidays.

I want to have a flag pole installed in the ground. Having a problem with the location. I also would like to get solar cell lighting for it so I can leave it up 24 hours a day.

Many folks do not know how to display the Flag properly. However I think most of them display Our Flag with respect the best way they can. I think that is better than not displaying IT.

Many years ago a house in Mineola had the Flag displayed hanging upside down and I had to drive past it frequently. That got my agita going! I think it was during the Viet Nam era.

Be proud for what Our FLAG stands for. Many fine people have given their lives to defend our right to Freedom! AND don't forget the valiant people that did come home, many of them damaged for the rest of their lives.

Just my 2 cents..

Hi Dick,
Well I don't have a flag pole and don't really wnat one in my front yard. I don't know if it is right or wrong but I hung my flag off the gutter and made sure it did not flap around attaching it to the bottom of the house. I have a 8'X12' flag that flew over the White House many years ago and was given to me by my uncle who was a stewart on Air Force One. I think it is extremly important to show support. My Dad was in Vietnam and came back alive. Although the way I fly my flag may not be totaly acceptiable, it's my way, doing the best I can with what I have at this time.
America -- Love it or get the **** out !!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been flying our flag for years.

Never in the rain or snow. Never in the dark unless I have the flood lights aimed at it.

If you are flying a flag, you have to have a direct light on it not just ambient light coming from your house.

Flag etiquette is very important. Don't do it half assed. It makes it look bad.

I saw a guy driving down I95 with a flag over the hood of his car. I could have spit at that man. The bugs, the dirty water getting splashed on it... He would have been more patriotic with nothing at all. I'm sorry, I was always raised that the flag was to be flown and it's not a car bra.

If you fly that flag at night, make sure it's lit so everyone can see it.

Our flag should always be flown properly and with respect, but lately that is not always the case. People can make their statement and be patriotic by showing non official flags on their cars, etc. Red white and blue emblams and banners are fine and get the message across, but if you are showing the official flag of America it should be flown with all due respect. Many thousands have given their life or limbs for the freedom it represents, please treat it with respect. It should never be in contact with the ground and should only be flown in daylight unless lit at all times ( I find the low voltage yard lights do a great job, just pick the spotlight one for about $20. ) Old flags should be buried or burned, or I believe you can drop them off at the VFW and they will dispose of them properly for you.
