Fished 5-9 this morning. Low tide 4am, chilly NE breeze at 10-15, gin clear waters, very little white water, 50 air temps, a bit of E-W sweep, and steady cold drizzle the entire time, no bait to be seen. Was very hopeful today as the weather was snotty, dropping barometer, and forecast for rain later.
I walked west to the 2 mounds and casted a black danny along the way. I reach the western mound at around 5:45, I hook up about 10ft in front of me, but broke off. These 1oz dannys have been really getting fish for me, but I've been unlucky losing them every time I get a new one. It got real quiet for an hour or so and I walk back west to fish around the jetties. This time casting a popper and walking. Hooked up with a 30" bass 1/3 of the way back. I was surprised as it seemed dead. Made it to the jetties and casted where the waves fell over the bar. I got there in time for the perfect wave that left a nice cover of suds. I worked a pencil through the white water and a pretty big bass jumped a foot out of the water at the plug. Didn't connect. Switched to a bucktail and got 2 fish in 2 casts. I thought I was into something good, but it was over.
In the distance, you could see clouds of birds. There was a flurry close, but only for 5 minutes. It's the sign that fall is here.
