Hi,Maybe somebody can help and explain to us thefishinf rules of a boat that fishs in New Jersey and is registered in New York or vice versa? Do we have to use the New Jersey dates and size and limits or can we use the New York rules? We have asked so many people and have recieved so many different anwsers. Also how are the fish mesured? Is it from the fork of the tail or the full lenth of the tail? Thanks for any help,Davey

I maybe wrong - but I believe you need to follow the rukes for the port you are retrunig to. In other words - if you fish Jersey waters but are returning to a NY port - you need to follow the NY regs.

Davey,
You have to follow the more restrictive set of regs. For example, if your fishing in NJ and the fluke size limit is 16 inches, your allowed to have that fish in NJ, but you can't bring it back to NY. OTOH if the size limit in NJ is 18 inches You'll get a ticket if your stopped in NJ but it would be perfectly legal in NY. Most fish are measure by overall legnth, but some are measured by fork legnth, you have to check the regs to see which one applies.
