Each year there are lots of snappers around the Huntington area where I fish. I tried once drifting snappers for fluke with no luck. Now I am wondering if a striped bass -or even a larger bluefish, might enjoy a fresh caught snapper. Has anyone had success fishing fresh caught snapper for Bass - do they enjoy them, -how should I rig them? Any advice would be super.

I have fished snappers from Sunken Meadow jetty and had at least two run offs which I'm sure were larger blues. Bass should eat them too. I was hooking them right around the dorsal with a single hook but if I were to try it again, I would use an additional treble stinger also in the back, just before the tail.

Billfish- That sounds right. If blues are around they will atttack from the tail... a bass will probably eat head first, so I will use the double hook rig. I am going to chunk this weekend and bring along live snapper for when the tide slows down. I am guessing that might be the time to try it.
