My family is going to Turkey for 11 days at the end of August. 5 or 6 of the days will be spent on a big sailboat we will be chartering with 5 or 6 cabins and touring around 'Southern Turkey' waters. The specifics of where we are going are still up in the air. Needless to say i want to do some fishing. I can't find hardly ANY information on fishing there. Anyone have any experience/recommendations of where i can get some info. I have never been. Thanks!

This could be the most challenging question ever brought up on this forum but no, you don't win anything. I did see pictures of the U.S military fishing in Sadam's privately stocked ponds in Iraq and catching something, but I have no clue about finding info on fishing in Turkey. There must be something to catch in Turkish waters but I would bring my camera instead of fishing gear.

I'm def. going to be bringing a camera as i expect fantastic views. probably also fishing rod though because it is torture to see a fishing opportunity but not be prepared. i know there is fish there as a buddy of mine went spearfishing off a boat on a trip he took there but didn't do any line fishing. i'll go crazy if i spend 5 days on the water and at least don't try to catch something.
Also, im jealous of your smelting trip.. that sounds like fun, too bad i live in nyc, otherwise i'd go.

"A lousy stinken day trurned Gold, so is the alure of surf casting.."

That talks about his latest fishing session.

You're going to have a great time. My first trip ever overseas was Turkey ( Istanbul ) back in 1998. The people are very friendly towards Americans - did not feel in danger once( granted it was Pre 9/11). Lots of history there. We were only there for 3 nights 4 days so stayed close to Istanbul. I did not get to go fishing..BUT ...every time we walked along the Bosphurus guys were fishing.. and birds a diving just like here so I walk over to check their buckets and what do I see ...good ole yellow eyes (blues) from snappers up to ****tails. So I can tell you that they catch blues over there , at least near Istanbul. Good luck and enjoy !
