I've heard fishing when the ice starts to recede from the shore line it is a good time to fish. Any truth in the matter? Is so what are the recommended methods? Cabin fever is getting to me have to do something. Lou

I always like to fish the ice-out. Mostly for trout, but panfish as well. Once we get a few warm rains, try by inlets where you'll have more open water to cast to. I've nailed some lunker browns on the reservoirs in West./Putnam as well as walleyes and panfish in the inlets. Lakes known for their trout like Kensico can be great anywhere along the shoreline. Many times I over cast onto the ice and then hop the lure to the ice edge and let it drop to the bottom before retreiving. Good Luck. I think it may be awhile before there's enough water to cast into!! No more Snow Pleeeaase.

Ice out....

Alot of the lakes here on the island are completely free of ice from all this rain we had.

One pattern that i have found to work when the ice starts to back off in an in-line spinner for largemouths. Nice and slow is the tempo.....
