In the lobster fishery, we are going to a slot size by oct '08. That will end landing anything bigger than 3 1/2 pounds in us waters.
A good move for future generations of lobsterfisherman, if there are any fisherman left.

No, that would be just the vocal minority, HJ.

Interesting article, and it makes perfect sense. As the net impact of human introduced unnatural selection supercedes that of the good old Darwin, survival of the fittest will be replaced with survival of the fleetest for most of the heavily targetted species. The obvious solution: Kill All Humans! I miss Futurama. :(

Humans in this country and others are under similar pressures as the fish,
and thus are being shaped by "natural selection" as well.

The more intelligent humans, the ones that proceed on to higher education, and eventually better jobs,
are either reducing the number of children they have
or not having them at all due to their career choices.

Because of this, we now will produce less of these intelligent offspring,
while at the same time there are legions of less intelligent humans producing children at a prodigious pace.

The future, more stupid people.

Kudos HJ for having the balls to write what most people wouldn't even say out in the open

HJ writed.....

I being incorporated in the quadralateral of less intelegent humans take offense and defense to your comments for the following 7 reasons:

1) I have never or will never be am member of a legion ... American, Foreign or otherwise (I can't pay the monthly dues)

2) I won't produce children who are prodigious .. in fact I don't even believe in God.....

7) Same as 3-6.....

Now ... if you still feel the same way ... myself & my 27 brothers will be looking for you.

Mako Mike... "Sounds like a good argument from draggers, since they catch both the bold and the timid?"

What makes you say that??? Article addressed gillnets not draggers.

HJ.... "I though everybody on this site has already determined scientists and more specifically, marine biologists,
are complete morons and always wrong."

That's exactly the problem. Instead of just dismissing them as morons you've got to examine their motivation. While some are morons, many just smell the $$. Why is it that their findings are amazingly consistant with the views of those who pay the bills? It's about cleverly crafted "research" that happens to provide the desired results.

Can you believe "scientists" getting paid by PEW? Or drug companies? Follow the money. You've got to look at who paid the bills

Who paid the bills on this study; it would appear no one who would profit from the results.
