Sea temps

Guys remeber surface temps are not always the way to think. I have caught sharks in 52deg. temps and sent a temp probe down to the bottom and found the temps to be 61 degs. So Don't always go by temps. I personal belive in bait as the key for sharks. All my makos have come after a blue fish attack on the baits. Then you get no action and bam mr. mako is there attacking the baits.
The currents not tide effect the temps futher offshore. That is why you can find pockets of fish in the spin offs of the gulf stream inshore this time of yr. I had a 454 mako right around the 3rd rock piles in 2nd week of june. I feel these fish follow the bait rather then just the temps? I my be wrong but The bigger makos like colder water that is why the first shot of makos in the cold waters usually are bigger . This is my opinion based on my experinces with shark fishing. I don't cliam to know everything just opening a new door to other fatcs. Hope everyone in the hudsons angler tourney lucktight lines catcth them up Capt Mike.

You?re off base on your Fishing Dude. Most of the fish that have won these tournaments are closer to shore then you think. Most big boys as you put it over run the fish. I personally fish with a so called big boy on a 50' post and has placed in many tourneys. but we didn?t make the big run we fished inshore by Wrecks Structure, and most importantly Bait. Most people get pissed when the Blues show up. Me I get ready because I know the old Point nose may not be far behind. I was with a friend fishing Montauk butterfish hole for Giants when he hooked and landed a 820LBs Mako. Was on the eyewitness news and actually was on the front cover of the Nor east. Don't recall the year. But that?s not far off shore we had 30 foot wood skiff could not run far. So that's the answer to your theory. I don't mean to bash you but there is more to learn then meets the eye!

there is more stroies?

Hey Mako Mike thanks for the reply. Funny but if you know Frankie there were a lot more tails where that came from. every time I fished with him we caught Big fish. Funny he was always in the cabin sleeping while we were on deck working baits. but when the fish was on he shot out like a rocket on his 130's that?s all he fished. Landed many giants fishing with him also. Don?t forget the 454lbs. mako in the 80's won the Hudson?s angler, also just jarred my memory? That was with the 30 mile range also. But like I said guys some sharks are territorial they hang around structure. Threshers are known for this and a big thresher is always my preference for winning a tourney. By the way we fished in a 27? boat named Sea bandit. That?s not that big. A 23? to 25? boat could have done the same. So like I said before don?t always Ass,u,me you have to go far to get the big fish!

You make an excellent point. Most guys
out in those big sport fishing rigs
have big pockets as well and could care less about the expense of a day offshore
fishing. However think of it this way.
Those same guys that have those big rigs will be able to chase the makos
regardless of where they are because they have the resources and the range
to do so.
I read your post in detail and even reposted your comment here?
Maybe you ment something diffrent but from what it says My statement was correct?
It could be a miss understanding so i'll give you that ?
Maybe I'm wrong but from reading your quote it looks like you keep bashing the big guy? please explain your self better. Maybe then we could understand each other.
There is no problem here everyone is entitled to there opinion just curious as to what you typed then your post back to me ? Tight lines Capt. Mike
